Saw William Shatner in The Defender, a two-parter from the anthology series Studio One and originally aired in 1957.
Shatner played lawyer Kenneth Preston.
The Defender would become the basis for The Defenders (1961-65) TV series with Kenneth Preston now played by Robert Reed.
Although Shatner did not reprised Kenneth Preston in the TV series he however made five appearances in it each playing different characters.
Just as Shatner would later become Captain Kirk, Reed too would gain TV immortality when he played Mike Brady in The Brady Bunch.
Back in original The Defender two-parter the judge was played by Ian Wolfe and he would later reunite with Shatner in the original Star Trek in Bread and Circuses playing Septimus and in All Our Yesterdays playing Mr Atoz.
The Defender two-parter would not be forgotten when clips of it got incorporated in the Boston Legal episode Son of the Defender in 2007 with principal character Denny Crane, another lawyer, played by none other than Shatner himself.
Despite the name of the Boston Legal episode and the incorporation of the said clips it is not a crossover sequel to The Defender.
The purpose of the incorporation of the clips in the Boston Legal episode was to present it as a flashback to when Denny was a young lawyer and how it relates to the present situation he was in and the original Kenneth Preston just happens to look like Denny Crane!

In the first episode of The Defenders TV series that William Shatner made his guest stint in, Killer Instinct, aired in 1961, he plays a character called Jim McLeery.
Of course Shatner later played another Jim in Captain Kirk.
The said The Defenders episode has Shatner's wife played by Joanne Linville and she later reunited him in TOS when she guest starred in The Romulan Incident playing the Romulan Commander.
