Michael Ansara has passed away.
Born on April 15 1922, Ansara is well known to Star Trek fans for playing the Klingon Kang. He first played Kang in the original series episode Day of the Dove (1968). He returned to play Kang, 26 years later in the Deep Space Nine episode Blood Oath, as he was one of three actors to reprised his Klingon character from the original series in Deep Space Nine, the others being John Colicos as Kor and William Campbell as Koloth.
Ansara played Kang one more time in the Voyager episode Flashback as he had appeared in Tuvok’s memory on his time on the Excelsior.
Ansara made another appearance in Deep Space Nine this time in the episode The Muse playing Jeyal, a husband of Lwaxana Troi.
Ansara is among a group of actors to appear in both Deep Space Nine and rival space station Babylon 5 playing Elric in the latter in the episode The Geometry of Shadows.
He was also someone who appeared in both Star Trek & Lost In Space playing The Ruler in the latter in the episode The Challenge.
Ansara was a guest star in three episodes and a director of another episode of I Dream of Jeannie. This is due to the fact that Jeannie was played by his then wife Barbara Eden. (In a case of sad timing, Eden’s I Dream of Jeannie on-screen husband Larry Hagman passed away just eight months previously.)
Other work included The Robe, Alfred Hitchc(o)ck Presents, The Ten Commandments (1956), Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea movie (also with then wife Barbara Eden) and then the TV series of it, The Man from UNCLE, The Girl From UNCLE, Land of the Giants, Mission: Impossible, Buck Rogers In The 25th Century and voiced Mr Freeze in the 1990s Batman animated series.
Michael Ansara died on July 31 2013 at the age of 91.
